An evening of music and memories. An evening of nostalgia with your host Phil O'Brien. A critical look at the New Zealand media hosted by Colin Peacock and Hayden Donnell. There's never a shortage of opinions on the media - but Mediawatch looks at it all in detail twice a week, accompanied by to-the-point interviews and analysis. Mediawatch is a must-listen each week for those keen to know more about the news - and each edition must also stand up to the scrutiny of those who work in our media. On air since 2001 and as a podcast since 2007, Mediawatch looks critically at big stories and issues in the news right now - and what’s going on behind the scenes across the media. Mediawatch examines the output of reporters, producers and editors - as well as the input of PR and the ad industry. It also questions the executives, policy-makers, politicians, regulators and tech companies which influence our media today. Legislation, issues and insights from Parliament. The House is produced for RNZ with funding from Parliament’s Office of the Clerk. RNZ’s The House – journalism focussed on parliamentary legislation, issues and insights – is made with funding from Parliament’s Office of the Clerk.

  • 1Mediawatch for 28 July 2024 Mediawatch looks at how the media reacted to the Abuse in State Care report - and the role the media played in bringing the issue to light. [Sunday 28 July 2024, 09:08]

  • 2[The House] MPs on the Abuse in Care report The moment the Abuse in Care Report was tabled in Parliament MPs began debating what it means and how to respond. Every week Parliament is a smorgasbord of stories and issues, many of them interesting and most of them impactful, but sometimes one event or issue in the week dwarfs every other. This week that issue was the tabling of, and initial debate over the report of the Royal Commission of Inquiry into Abuse in Care. The report is nearly three thousands pages, spread across 16 volumes. Crucially it includes 138 recommendations. The speeches on the report in the House took an hour and three quarters and were compelling. A number were particularly thoughtful and honest and ideally should be heard in their entirety. See the link to the Parliament video or Hansard transcription below if you wish to take in the entire debate, or follow the link immediately below for some moments from the debate.
