Allan Fraser, Australian journalist and Labor Politician (1943), reports on the events in the life of John Thomas Lang, as he (Fraser) has reported on them. 'The Big Fella', Jack Lang is an Australian politician who was Premier of New South Wales for two terms between 1925 and 1932 when he was dismissed by the state Governor. This documentary starts with a plaque honouring him being presented in his home town and constituency of Auburn, near Sydney. He headed two Labor governments over four years covering the depression then he was dismissed from office by the NSW Governor for refusing to repay interest on Commonwealth loans so he could keep money in the state to alleviate unemployment. He now produces a weekly newspaper The Century. He is interviewed on many of the things he instigated which are now just features of daily life: full employment; social services; aid for families and universal suffrage.
