A series of speeches given to the Mt. Albert Branch of the New Zealand Labour Party by those contesting to be selected to stand for the Mt. Albert electorate seat in the 1981 General Election. Nominees include: Gene Leckey, Malcolm Douglas, Keith Elliot, Ernet McIvor, Helen Clark, and Jack Elder. All nominees were required to address selection meetings convened for the purpose of enabling a selection committee to hear them. The meeting was open to all financial members of the party. Helen Clark was selected as Labour's candidate for Mt. Albert, later becoming Leader of the party, and then Prime Minister in 1999.
