  • 1No Man's Sand A significant pocket of peace in the Middle East can be found in the Sinai Desert. It is maintained by a multi-national peacekeeping force whose role is to report any violations of the 1979 Egyptian-Israeli Peace Treaty. New Zealand is playing a significant role in peacekeeping in that Multinational Force and Observers (MFO), but a significant section of the Labour Party wants New Zealand troops withdrawn. The Government disagrees.
