1Auckland Police blamed liquor for much of Friday night's violence in Auckland's Queen Street, which erupted towards the end of a free outdoor concert in the central city. Hundreds of concert-goers went on the rampage, attacking Police, wrecking cars and looting shops. Dozens of people were injured, 42 of them Police officers. A panel discussion about the causes of the riots with Auckland Mayor Cath Tizard, Deputy Assistant Police Commissioner Graham Perry and youth worker Father Felix Donnelly as well as ideas to prevent such a riot happening again.
