A daily, midday, news package which featured an in depth interview about a current news topic. Viewers could phone in and ask questions of the key interviewee.

  • 1Unemployment Two years ago, David Lange promised that Labour would address the problem of unemployment in New Zealand by creating thousands of new jobs during its term in office. Unemployment was a major election issue at the time with 65,000 New Zealanders registered as unemployed. At the same time this year the figure was 57,500. During the past two years the Government has begun restructuring the economy as well as the temporary employment and job training schemes. Critics say these programmes have done little to create long-term job opportunities, to help school leavers gain employment, or get women back into the workforce. But are others, such as employers, also to blame for the lack of job opportunities? Discussion and viewer talkback with Jane Stevens, from the Unemployed Workers' Union.
