3In Kawarau the Tasman Pulp and Paper Mill has been mothballed and around 1,500 people have lost their jobs, with many others in the region suffering because of the mill closure, like loggers, ports and store keepers. There is an estimation that around 20,000 people are affected at present, and how long this will go on depends on how long the closure lasts.
