  • 1Grace and Favour In the months since the People's Revolution in the Philippines, when Corazon Aquino took power from long-term President Ferdinand Marcos, the country and its new leader have been at the centre of a political tug-of-war. The left want to get rid of all United States military bases, release all political prisoners and undo the Marcos machine. The right urge an end to talks she started with the outlawed Communist Party in the Philippines and the guerilla New People's Army (NPA) and a return to the sword. At the centre of the discord is President Aquino, trying to maintain the grace of the peaceful People's Revolution which put her into power.
