New Zealand's flagship, in-depth current affairs programme covering a host of local stories. Presented by Richard Long, with reporters Kerryanne Evans, Rob Harley, Jackie Maher and Rod Vaughan.

  • 1The Great Divide Australia and NZ - should NZ become a seventh state of Australia? Should we start by having a common currency - an Australiasian dollar? Do the Aussies really care less about NZ? Examination of federation and the prospect of economic union. Reporter: Kerryanne Evans Producer: Chris Harrington Assignment looks at trans-Tasman relations. Are they warming up or cooling off? How much closer are we to our Australian neighbours? As Kiwis citizens forge closer business ties with Australia, many New Zealand businesses are moving across the Tasman. More and more kiwis are jumping across the ditch to form new lives in Australia, as well as seeking their fame and fortune in Ocker land. What is the New Zealand Government's stance on this situation? Do their views reflect the actions of their citizens? Correspondent Kerryanne Evans talks with Prime Minister Helen Clark and Australian Defence Minister, Peter Reith, about the current political, economic and defence position between the two countries. We'll also see lead singer of Kiwi band, Fur Patrol, Julia Deans, who has left the 'Land of the Long White Cloud' to seek her fame and fortune in Australia. What are the social consequences of more and more Kiwis living in Australia? And, during ANZAC week, Assignment looks at what ANZAC Day means today. [26/04/01]
