1Bogans Marginalised and stereotyped as social lepers in black T-shirts and jeans, Bogans are now the focus of an academic study which will cost taxpayers nearly $100,000. The grant over three years will allow Dave Snell to carry out a PhD entitled, The Everyday Life of Bogans - Identity and Community Among Heavy Metal Fans. The research includes studying different types of dancing to heavy metal music, the importance of tattoos and body piercings and the friendships that develop through metal music.
