UPBEAT MUSIC Did you realise that the average NZ home produces around 8 litres of moisture a day? Over a year, it's the equivalent of two of these. Moisture is created by day-to-day living, like indoor clothes drying, cooking and showering. Rising damp from beneath your house can add to the problem. Damp homes are harder to heat, and they're bad for our health. So reduce moisture by opening windows and doors regularly to let fresh air circulate, use externally vented fans in kitchens, bathrooms and laundries, dry your clothes outside when you can, and make sure you sort out insulation and heating too. Here's a tip ` always address the sources of moisture in your home before considering installing a ventilation or dehumidifying system. Check out energywise.govt.nz for advice on how to solve dampness in your home. Reducing moisture improves your warmth, comfort and health. I'll see you next time.
