Which meant she could return to the cause without skiing any penalty loop is. Her closest rival on the first lap of the course was the neutral Paralympic athletes Those two were 15 seconds apart after the first visit to the shooting range. But positions changed on the second lap. She was a comfortable leader until she missed the shot. That meant she would have to ski one penalty loop Which would cost around 30 seconds, Giving the rivals a chance to close the gap. And the United States American teammates Oksana Was it the outstanding skier on lap to. That put Kendall under pressure as she approached the finishing line, Knowing she was setting the target for her rivals to beat. She was 24 seconds lower, Moving at her into second place. He could only hope he could still be in the lead. Belarus has all five targets. When all of the athletes had visited the shooting range twice, There was only 7/10 of a second between the top three. The results will be decided by the final lap of cross-country skiing. First medal contenders across the line was Cameron. He would have to wait for the others to see where he would finish. The neutral Paralympic athlete was aiming to win this event At the second games in a row. At the shooting range the athletes used a sensitive site That allowed them to aim the rifles according to the tone and the headphones. This was a crucial moment for Sviatlana Sakhanenka As she missed two targets. That meant she would have to ski to penalty loops Before rejoining the race. Oksana Shyshkova was skiing with her guide, But they were struggling to keep place with the defending champion Mikhalina Lysova. Day one of the ice hockey at the PyeongChang 2018 Paralympic Winter games. First on the ice are Norway up against Italy. 20 years ago Norway won their only gold in this sport. The Italians have never secured a metal and ice hockey, But currently set only one place by Norway in the rankings. They are getting into the thick of the action. The drive-through squeeze is forwarded. An opportunity for Italy. All, he has hit the side. He had the opportunity. He is stopping three from three. Shows how little opportunity both offensive lines have had to unleash the park towards the opposition goal. Now the opportunities they are. He gives Italy liftoff. The Italians are up and running. He is absolutely lethal. Seven from seven at last year's world Championships. A good opportunity, this. (CHEERING) Norway are back level. How big a goal could that be for Norway? I don't know quite how he managed to thwart him they are. He makes up the yardage and will score. It's a fantastic goal from Italy. He took the puck from inside his own defensive zone. Not enough of a neck to divert the puck away from the goalie . It's always difficult in para-ice hockey to be in a sitting position and then be asked to manoeuvre the puck with you. There are more red jerseys around the Italian goal now. Norway with a huge equaliser . With 2 minutes remaining the pressure was increasing . Bakke expertly channelled the puck towards that far corner . I think Italy here are just going to settle for the shoot out as the ends. The crowd are well aware. Five minutes of overtime. Norway dominated because not get it into the goal. We are going to go all the way into the shootout. There is the captain. Trying to get the shootout off to a good start. It is denied by the Italian goalkeeper. He extends his impressive performance. (CHEERING) if the pressure got to him, he certainly used it as fuel. A wonderful bit of stick handling there. It's advantage Italy. Norway have already come back on two occasions. They miss. That didn't even require a touch from the goal keep. Doesn't even get the shot away. Now the opposite number three. Norway with three blanks in the shootout, a gifting Italy the when. Finally on the shootout they do enough. Italy on top after the shootout. For the first time ever, 12 teams compete for Paralympic gold. The nations compete in a round-robin format. Today's world champions Norway against 2014 bronze medallists Great Britain. Great Britain struck on the fourth and. They ended up outside of the house in Britain with 3-1 up. Great Britain added to their lead in the seventh and went into the final with a two-point advantage. He couldn't make the hammer count and Great Britain extended their lead again. An excellent start for Great Britain, beating reigning world champions Norway. Three times Paralympic champions Canada, the only nation ever to win gold in wheelchair curling, took on Switzerland. Canada did not need long to show their quality. They took out the Swiss stone for a 2 to nothing leads. (CHEERS) It was a textbook start for Canada. The Canadians added to their nights at every end, But put the match beyond dispute and the fifth. This was team were forced to try a difficult shot but could not take out the Canadian stones. Excellent play from the Canadians throughout the match really kept the pressure on Switzerland. On the sixth and the Swiss did have a chance to make an impression on the scoreline, But there stone did not make contact. By then the match was irretrievable and Switzerland conceded. A resounding victory for Canada by 8 points to 0 The Republic of Korea started their tour on sheet C against the United States of America . The Americans came to the PyeongChang Winter Olympics with high hopes. The loan crowd were happy when the USA attempted to clear the house at the conclusion of the second end. They only managed to move one Korean stone and the host for one point up. By the break it was 2-1 to Korea. They took out the remaining US stone to put the host into a six-one lead . The USA did manage a comeback of sorts And it was 73 going into the eighth and . But their hopes were cut off by a great stone from the Koreans . There was no coming back from that in the USA conceded defeat . Germany have not featured in wheelchair curling at the Paralympics since 2010. They arrive in PyeongChang2018 with a point to prove. They took on the neutral Paralympic athlete delegation. After going one nothing down in the first and, They struck in the second. No problem as she put Germany into a Two-one lead. In a match of swinging fortunes Germany were four-three behind going into the seventh end. They managed a significant score of three points. A strong team performance by Germany put significant pressure on their opposition. Options were few and with time running out, The NPA were forced to go for it all. But they could not get back into the match as Germany managed another three points end. It was a great start to the turn and for Germany With a 9 to 4 victory.
