He knew immediately he had won a gold medal. McKeever was congratulated by Holub. Thomas Clarion was still on the course with his guide. Clarion had been in second place At the start of the final lap. He is rented for the finish line and found he had slipped behind Holub into third place. McKeever had now won gold medals at five successive Paralympic Winter games, Taking his total to 14 medals overall. It proved to be a race from three athletes who had already won medals in biathlon. All of the athlete skied with a guide. Number 46 in the centre of the picture Had won a bronze medal in biathlon. She made a strong start to this race. Tthere was an incident involving the leader as she reached the halfway point, Treading on her ski pole and breaking it. Who got handed her a poll. She had managed to keep her balance, which was crucial. There was little impact on her performance. Shyshkova was now less than 14 seconds behind. Next finish will be Shyshkova and her guide. Shyshkova had managed to close the gap between her and Sakhanenka over the final lap. She was not quick enough to win the race. Her time was less than eight seconds lower. Which meant Sakhanenka could celebrate. There was an exhausted athlete from Belarus lying on the finish area. Lysova moved into third place. Her teammate did not finish the race. Lysova claimed the bronze medal. There were two separate battles for medals in the 15km free. Number 58 was involved in a fight for the early lead . Meanwhile the athlete from Ukraine was tightly behind her teammate In a tussle for third. Neutral Paralympic athlete Ekaterina Rumyantseva was building a comfortable lead. Milenina was the first athlete to finish. She had to wait to see what a final position would be. Liashenko was next across the line, 11 seconds slower. That put her in second place temporarily. The leader was tiring on the course, The question was whether she would be able to hold on to her lead in the closing stages. Rumyantseva was on course for her second gold medal in PyeongChang. First Place was guaranteed. The gold medal was won by neutral Paralympic athlete Ekaterina Rumyantseva. Her teammate won the silver. And the final match of day two at the hockey centre, It was Canada against Italy. The Canadian set up Paralympic record by scoring 17 goals against Sweden on day one. Italy needed penalties to overcome Norway in the opening match. They score. Oh, it took a couple of touches. Dixon is all alone . It is in the back of the rack. And that is 1/3 goal for Canada . So precise . He scores. That passing sequence from below the goal and for Canada, in this game, Is proving deadly. Oh! Wow! That is a cross body dart. He looks like a shooter tutor in there. They score! Here comes Canada. That is going to go into the back again. Here is Canada's 18. Look at him do his dancing. What a goal there. He has scored his second goal. That is clever work indeed by the youngster. It was a long day at the office for Italy As the North Americans, Canada, take the Europeans down. The final for wheelchair curling matches of day to the People's Republic of China were looking to maintain their 100% record in the competition. After some Mrs by Germany in the first and, It was China who raised to a two-point lead. He successfully landed as hammer to put China in front. And a wonderful team effort on the fifth and, China took more points. USA took on Sweden. Both sides were still looking for their first win. In the opening end, US skip the tone. By the second end, the United States were foUr nothing up. His hammer stone did not make contact with the rocks . On the sixth end, another two points for the USA put them six points clear . Even shuffling the line-up in the second half was not enough for Sweden . They conceded the match. Both the Slovakia and Switzerland had a one and a loss. Swiss skip found the perfect weight and was accurate with his stone. The Slovakian started to find some consistency. They scored a run of four singles. It was a tense match. Going into the final end, Slovakia led. This was needed to score 2 to win. Despite a determined performance from Slovakia, It ended 6-5 to Switzerland. With one win and one loss, Great Britain were hoping to gather some momentum. The first end allowed nerves to settle. Finland responded. Great Britain came out after the break and extended their lead. A mistake handed is a two-point steel to the British rank. Another Finnish error contributed to their downfall. # "Whole World" by Gabe Simon VO: 'When you book a flight with Expedia,' 'and add a hotel or activity,' 'you can save.' 'Everything you need to go.' 'EXPEDIA.' (pleasant music) the Alpine centre stages the first snowboarding event. Day three the competition got underway. The athletes compete within three classifications. SB-LL1 and SB-LL2. And a third one for males only with upper limb impairments. We join the action at the semifinals. Up first for the SB-LL1 races. The first of which was won by Brenna Huckaby of the USA. She outpaced Hernandez by some distance. In the second semi USA faced off against Canada. She would join Huckaby in the final. Just coming to it. What an innocuous start. But nothing is going to stop Amy Purdy here. Over the final and jumping through the line. It's America versus America in the final of the snowboard cross SB-LL1. It's Huckaby against Purdy. In the women's SB-LL2, Netherlands was a strong favorite. Her opponent was Spain who wasn't able to keep pace. It was going to be an all Dutch final. What a poor start. The 45-year-old. She will face this lady in the final. Yes, she says, and yes, we all say. What a final that's going to be. Bibian Mentel-Spee against Lisa Bunschoten. The first of the men's SBU L semifinal so finalists. Handing the Italian a spot in the big final. His fellow countrymen faced against Patmore. It's a pretty even start. It's early in the green bib. A nailed on landing to go. That is exactly what he got. Australia are in the final. That threw a shocker. The All-American first Sammy of the man's soul the veteran take on a younger compatriot. The experience proved vital as the younger one tumbled. Netherlands in the red bib. He he doesn't just want to be the first bloke out of the gate. He wants to be a legend. The world champion is in the Paralympic final. That is how you do it. A gold will go to either Mike Schultz or Chris Vos. Another shocking women's event is World Cup winner and rising star of the sport Narita of Japan crashed out in the semifinal. Finland's flag bearer took on Evans Strong in the last semifinal of the day. The man who has been quickest in every round so far is gone. The reigning champion is wearing green. He's already out of the scene. The reigning world champion is through the line. Suur-Hamari my take on the big one. ( pop music plays) (ALL CHEER) (pop music continues) after some spectacular races in the semifinal, the finals provided even more entertainment. All classifications will involve a small final and a big final. First up in the SB-LL1 is Cecile Hernandez versus Canada. The French women held on to her lead and claimed bronze. Then the big final between Purdy and Huckaby, both from the United States of America. The gold-medal is there for the taking here. The Pyeongchang 2018 Paralympic games. A strong start from Huckaby. Brenna Huckaby is the world champion three times over. The age of 22. Brenna Huckaby keeps it straight. She comes in first. A gold medal. The first gold-medal of 2018 Paralympic games goes to the United States. The women's L L1 category. It goes to the three-time world champion Brenna Huckaby. Next up was the SB-LL2 women's bronze medal race Vanderbeek was the favorite. The Spaniard pipped the Dutch woman for the medal. She would have to be Lisa Bunschoten to repeat the success. Is Bibian Mentel-Spee ready to give out her crown? Not likely. Not easily. But she might not have a choice. Lisa Bunschoten has been getting better and better. When children just as a fraction of a lead. A huge stack for the pair of them! Bibian Mentel-Spee looks back to see if she is OK. She took a long look back to make sure her friend and compatriot was all right. Delightful piece of sportsmanship. Talk about a class athlete and a role model. Talk about a double Paralympic champion. Then came the demands. United States lined up against Italy. Both these riders promise a highly competitive race. A clear run now to the finish line. Australia is up against Italy in the big final. This was not the lineup many had expected. But they certainly didn't disappoint. Italy in the green. The Australian who makes the early running. Work to do. Patmore almost stumbles and gets it right. If you can just remain in control here, the gold-medal will be his. Italy looks to have not had enough to get to Australia. He wins the gold. He lets the emotion wash over him now. A Winter Paralympic champion, Patmore. All the tricks now. Oh! Yes sir. Absolutely brilliant. Party time. On to the SB-LL1 small final, where Austria is racing the United States. A free run to claim the bronze medal. Netherlands was able to add Paralympic gold to his collection but he had to beat USA first. Oh, tumbles! Over this jump. And lands the Paralympic champion. Netherlands might be the world champion, but on stage was just too much. Gold for America. Narita of Japan vs Strong of the United States. There was little to separate them until the American rider lost control and missed a gate. The American writer is Keith Gable. The sledgehammer has made a mistake. And he has made another. But he can hang on here. Gable has gone down. It was nothing compared to the stack from Keith Gable. He is the world champion going into this event. He slipped his eye off the ball a Little. The show really won't be as great as he wanted to be. But he won't care. Day three at the Gangneung hockey centre. USA's the favorites to take gold here. They had beaten Japan. They faced a Czech Republic team still looking for a metal. You really have to move quick. You only have three games to establish where you will end up in the tournament. Here comes USA. Right on the money. They start scoring. He gets a speeding ticket. Right past the Czech defense. We've already seen 17 goals in one game scored by Canada. That is a new Paralympic record. It has arrived in front of Farmer. Farmer make short work of it. One, two, there it is. Farmer, who has done it all before, takes his moment there on the power play. Farmer! I think he scores. He does. So explosive in front of the Czechoslovakian goal. A play to Wallace. He has rock down around the hammock. You can see the smile on his face. Wallace's gotten himself his first goal of the game he is just having fun, dancing around. There's Roybal. He circled the wagons and sees where he wants to attack. This one will just come ricocheting off. That's right under the glove. He just slides... That was just a burning shot, wasn't it? Right tight to the ice. This is the US. They've got to power-play goals. There is the goal, just like that. The Maestro, Farmer, is planting seeds in the springtime and Gangneung. This is too easy up front. He's got a Hattrick just like that. Bang bang. Goes the American puck movement. Equally so goes the scoreboard. Here it comes, another attack. That's right through. Scoring his second. This game has just lost a little bit of its edge. The final tally for the USA. 10 points will stand on the board. The damage has been done heavily in that second frame. Seven goals were scored. The reigning Paralympic champions were against the hosts. The Republic of Korea against Canada. Both teams had a 100 cent record in the tournament. Korea started well. It was a tight game. Canada got themselves back into the match after the break. The penultimate stone was crucial for Canada. There was not enough weight to prevent a three-point end for the Koreans. The hosts now led by 7-3. Canada conceded in the eighth end. Four matches and four victories for the Republic of Korea. Both Sweden and survive care were looking to improve their fortunes. Sweden lay bottom of the table. Slovakia had won just one so far. Slovakia started brightly. A great start for the Slovakian's. They dominated the first half of the match. They send their lead and end three. Two points there made it 5-1 to Slovakia. Sweden remain without a win in the competition. NoRway face the neutral Paralympic athlete delegation. Norway slowly to lead in the first half of the match. He produced an excellent delivery. On the sixth end, Norway really took the match Out of the NPA's reach. He could not manage to beat the two Norwegian stones. Going into the eighth, NPA needed to find four shots to force an extra end. It was enough to put the match beyond the NPA Who are forced to concede. It was a return to form for the world champions. Norway get their first one of the games. China had won three out of three in the round-robin tournament. Finland was still looking for their first win. The first end went with form. They eventually gained two points for the Chinese. China added a further three points before the break. In the end, Finland gave themselves some hope. With one stone already counting, it added to the finish tally. China still prevailed. While China have a 100% record, Finland were left searching for their first victory. A Record number of athletes and countries are taking part. Some 567 competitors Are battling for glory Across six sports. The growth of Winter Paralympic sport is also reflected among the crowds. Spectators are converging. Both Germany and Slovakia had recorded two victories in the tournament. The Germans made a great start. The skip delivered 1/3 stone into the house for the penultimate shot at the end. Slovakia could not match it. They came back with two points in the second end. It was 4-4 going into the break. It was the fifth end that really clinched the match for Germany. There was no way back from that for Slovakia. It was Germany's third victory in for matches. After a victory in the morning, China were riding high with four victories. They were up against Switzerland. It was a tight, low scoring match. An end four, China had four stones counting. Sweden registered one point. It was 2-2 going into the break. It remains tight until the sixth end. The Chinese skip took up one Swiss stone, Which left three counting for China. It was then 6-2 to the Chinese. When China scored to an end seven, The Swiss conceded. After five straight victories, China looking unstoppable. With four consecutive defeats, Finland had struggled in the curling. They play the USA in the afternoon session. Finland had a great opportunity to score. There was a tough shot to take up the US stone. Her throw was good. A fantastic confidence booster for the struggling team. The USA hit back on the fourth. They already had one stone in the scoring position. This throw inched into the house and dislodge the finished stone. It was 4-4 going into the break. It remained close until the final end. The shot effectively won the match for Finland. The final score was Finland eight, USA five. It was Finland's first victory and wheelchair curling at this Paralympics. It was a healthy start for Great Britain. Sweden had lost all four of their matches. The first and went true to form. Two were left in the house for Great Britain. That set the tone for the match. Britain consistently added single points. It was a shot that Sweden could not match. Great Britain took a five nil lead. It finished Sweden one, Great Britain six.
