WELCOME BACK. Sam Webster has just got the first individual gold from the velodrome. Let's take a look. (ENERGETIC MUSIC) wasn't it fantastic? And it looks very close. But he did not need that third race to win. Let's head to the pool now. SOPHIE PASCOE, THE GOLDEN GIRL FROM GLASGOW, HAS HER 200M INDIVIDUAL MEDLEY FINAL SHORTLY. LET'S HAVE A LOOK NOW AT HER HEAT FROM EARLIER TODAY. Sophie Pascoe I mentioned, with a world record. A superstar. Looking forward to seeing the New Zealander. Pascoe is the world record holder as indicated. She won this event in Glasgow and she won in Rio as well. She is off very comfortably, Flanked by Greenwood on her left and Downey on her right. It is a masterclass of watching her swim. Her technique is so good. Already a big margin in the first 50 m. Big butterfly kicks and into the backstroke. She is missing one of her legs below the knee, Which then categorises her as an SM 10 athlete. Sophie Pascoe underwater. New Zealand claimed a bronze medal last night and was searching for their first gold. There is a huge chance that they will get it through Sophie Pascoe in the final. Johnson can't quite squeeze in the frame. Pascoe is smooth and the water and balanced. 106.4. Sometimes when there is an impairment on one side of the body, it is difficult to have that balance. On the top of the water you would not even know that there was an impairment. Very strong on her arms, And look at that sweep. Her hands go palm down and then out and around. She does a Sculling motion. Putting a huge margin into the rest of the competitors. Around about 7 m in front of her rival. The two Australians yet to turn. Pascoe is well and truly on her way home. A huge margin for Sophie Pascoe, the 25-year-old New Zealander. She is looking ominous as far as this final is concerned. It is going to be interesting to see when the clock stops for Sophie Pascoe. She seems like she is easing and now. She is not too far off world record pace. She cruised the last 25 m. We can expect to see her go out in the final. Downey second and Greenwood third. Johnson fifth. The margin was 4.12 seconds between first and second place. She is under water, head down on her butterfly. Eyes to the black line on the bottom of the pool. Straight arms just skimming across the water. Really long reach. Her head stays very still, In backstroke. The body rotating side to side, shoulder-led. Here is the margin. She is just so good. Thoughts on your time? A real good morning swim. Exactly what we wanted, Just to go out and get a couple of seconds of my personal best. We know that you can go a bit quicker. Were you saving some energy? A consistent rate the whole way through, and I will pick that up later tonight. A couple of days between the opening ceremony and this. Was it good to adjust Were you eager to get in the pool? I had a day off yesterday And getting excited and edgy to get in. A perfect amount of time coming into the village, Three days in. Getting ready to unleash. Enjoying these temperatures? It is bloody hot. It's bloody good. Sophie Pascoe crushing her competition. The live swimming finals are on Duke now. We will come back later for her final. We will go to the ceremony for a bronze medallist Emma Cumming. (MOMENTOUS MUSIC) medal ceremony for the women's 500 time trial. Emma Cumming. In the record books. THE BRONZE MEDAL WAS IN aUCKLAND IN 1990 Cumming has added to her success in the sprint. The honourable Steve Brax. The former Victorian Premier. Presenting this medal ceremony. Representing New Zealand, Emma Cumming! A brilliant ride. The New Zealand recordholder for the bronze medal, Flying two laps from the gate. The winner of the Silver medal, representing Australia, Stephanie Morton! She had believed for a long long time. At 33.61.9 She has repeated the dose. Now 2nd to Carly McCulloch. An individual sprinter with great talent. (MOMENTOUS MUSIC) The gold medallist... And Commonwealth champion... Representing Australia, Carly McCulloch. A proud moment for Carly McCulloch. (CHEERING, APPLAUSE) now it is her time to shine. Silver in 2010, New Delhi. Eight years later, she has gone one better. Ladies and gentlemen, The anthem of Australia. ('ADVANCE AUSTRALIA FAIR' PLAYS) (CAMERA SHUTTERS CLICK) (CHEERING, APPLAUSE) a very proud Carly McCulloch. And Stephanie Morton, Emma Cumming. Second individual sprint medallists Behind Sue Golder in 1990. 500 time trial for women. (MUSIC PLAYS) there is Carly McCulloch. Emma Cumming joining Natasha Hansen on the podium at these championships in the individual event WELCOME BACK. LET'S GO LIVE TO THE POOL TO SEE SOPHIE IN ACTION IN THE 200M INDIVIDUAL MEDLEY. Here is the lineup. Sophie Pascoe was most impressive in the heat this morning. She was in line number four. That said she was the fastest of the qualifiers. There is a lineup of eight swimmers. She will come out as the fastest and the favourite. Without a doubt, the fastest and the favourite. She will be very difficult to beat. She was the flag bearer and opening ceremony. That was an outstanding achievement. Catherine Downey. The second of three Australians. Three from Australia. Three from Canada. She will swim alongside Sophie Pascoe. There will be a huge roar for her. Whether you are a Kiwi or not, everyone recognises the quality of Sophie Pascoe. I think she is going to be chasing that time. She is strong in all four disciplines. She is listening to her choice of music to get herself psyched up. Three gold medals in Rio, London and Beijing Paralympics. First Olympics there in 2008 were such a revelation. She took the world by storm. She has since gone on to even better. I think she will come off the blocks quickly. She should be leaving after the first 25. CORRECTION: leading. Take your marks. Away in this final. Starting with the butterfly. We are looking for the summer in lane four with the black cap. Through the first 25 m, this is a shop in New Zealand won their first Commonwealth games gold medal in the pool here. Here is Sophie. Finishing the first 50. One body length clear of Leonard of Australia. She turns on to the back. Staying down the middle of the lane line. That is very important for her. She is catching the water and pushing it back pastor hips. Rotating her shoulders and keeping her headlock still. Beautiful. We come down 15 m to go to turn at the 100. She is defending the title she won four years ago in Glasgow. She is looking in great control. Superbly done centreline. Sophie Pascoe leads. She is good at all for strokes. No one else is in view. She is so dominant. Very very strong upper body. You can see her using her arms. Shortest distance between the two walls are straight up and straight back. She is controlling this beautifully. An individual medley races, some swimmers have their witnesses. CORRECTION: weaknesses. Sophie into the freestyle. Very solid here. She is looking to her right. Away from the camera. That represents 25 m gone. Sophie Pascoe looking for gold. Weight of the rest of the field. This woman is dominating the sport. She continues to do so. Sophie Pascoe to the wall. Gold medal. A first for New Zealand and the poll. Adding to the huge collection of superb performances In the pool for Sophie Pascoe. Individual Medley gold medal, And she did it without flaw. Four strokes, not a witness at all. CORRECTION: weakness. She has got to focus on her training and preparation. She is so gracious every time. She maintains the focus on the discipline of swimming. There is the backstroke. So he does not move around. Her head does not move around. She just moving to one side of the line in the pool. Shoulders are nicely up. Gold medal for Sophie Pascoe. She was absolutely stunning yet again. We saw her in that heat this morning. She showed then how good the form was. She did two minutes 27.26. She has done pretty much the same time tonight. When you look at that, it was not a matter of if she was going to win, it was by how much. She is, as you have said Anthony, extremely gracious in victory. The competitors have been swimming against and with her think that Sophie Pascoe is an inspiration To so many athletes around the world. She takes the time to breathe deeply. After adding to her huge collection and kicking off a great campaign. The silver goes to Canada. The Australian takes the bronze. The same three finished in those positions in 2014. Welcome back. Another win for New Zealand. SO, SENSATIONAL SOPHIE DEFENDED HER 200M INDIVIDUAL MEDLEY She easily won the gold medal. She was pretty slow to climb out of the pool. This final has taken a lot out of her. SHE SPOKE TO JOHN MCKENZIE JUST MINUTES AGO. Where does this rank in terms of what you have achieved in your career? Tokyo is the main focus. This is just a stepping stone towards that. Tonight's race, there is a lot to work on. We will go back and work on that for the next two years. You said that you enjoyed competing with everybody here. This atmosphere is crazy? It's pretty amazing. We have got obviously half of New Zealand, Which is awesome to have. Just take your time. It's awesome to have my parents here, And my family and friends That have come along to support. This is for them as well. To see what we go through On a day-to-day basis. Yeah. Sophie you have done well. Go take a rest. Thanks. I just need a water. (CHEERING, APPLAUSE) Sophie Pascoe, our latest gold medallist, That does look pretty dramatic. We have heard that she is OK but just dehydrated. We will keep you updated if we hear anything more. We had back to the velodrome after this. Three medals for New Zealand this evening. A gold and bronze in the cycling, a gold in the pool with Sophie Pascoe. We are going to head back to the velodrome for the men's 15 km scratch. We have three Kiwis in action. They will get the gun. This big field in the men's scratch race. Of course, the defending champion... The champion from four years ago was not here. Shane Archibald. The very famous mullet in the world of track cycling. He defeated Glenn O'Shea. None of the three on the podium are here foUr years later. Expect some real fireworks. Incredible capacity To break a field apart. We had the qualifying for this race earlier this morning. We saw one qualifying heat had a quick pace In the other one was pretty leisurely and slow. Of course, this race is 60 laps. First rider over the line after 60 laps wins the race. If riders lapped the field, they will become the ultimate winner. Five times points Race world champion, for Cam. Him and Lee Howard may be the pairing for Tokyo 2020. We see the riders stretched out down the bottom of the track. As the pace goes higher, they'd try to get as much draft from other riders as possible. We can see Nick Kergozou from New Zealand. They are just sorting themselves out really, Waiting for a big name to emerge at the front. It is not surprising to see the pace relatively high quite early. A few riders will attack You do not know until you do stretch them. The riders will go into this race with a plan as to how they will when it. That will include taking the lap on the field. They will work to their strengths and weaknesses. If the writer does not have a good sprint, They will want to take the lead with five laps remaining. You do not want to exert your energy to early unless it is taking a lap on the field. We see Dylan Kennett in the front bunch. He will be keen to take a lap on the field. He gained a bronze medal in the IP earlier in this event. Simply a time trial off the front, but it is being covered very early on. No points in a scratch race. It is 'First past the post'. Howard swings up with a very tame pace. The intensity is gone out of this event. 49 to go. This will be a dynamic race. We will see certain riders wanting to attack at different points in the race. He held on for the earlier sprints and then decided to attack in the middle of the race. He is an incredible rider, and he is at the front of the Australian riders. He will not be shy of putting the pace on early in order to stretch the other riders. And just show his dominance in the field. There is more than one rider from each country competing, But they cannot be seen to be colluding. Myers is already creating a gap in the field. Dylan Kennett is keeping an eye on him. Any rider will be watching Cam Myer. Nick Kergozou, Also a fantastic kilo rider. He will be looking to go from two laps to go. He will be hoping for a sprint finish, Campbell Stewart. Nick Kergozou will do some good work in there. Those riders that have a sprint finish, such as Cam Stewart, It's just a matter of sitting in and conserving as much energy as possible. Trying to attack mid race will take an extra zap out of their legs. They will tuck in. You can see the riders shoulders rolling when Kammeyer gets on the front, Because he puts the pace on. It is amazing that Meyer is doing that much effort early on. I would have thought the Aussies would be putting more effort in On his behalf. This Welsh rider had a fantastic first race, John. We have 41 laps to go. There have been threats of breakaways. John Mole, Looking to continue with the attack. The average speed is well over 50 km an hour For the 60 laps. Myer again on the front. Everyone looking at him. Everyone keeping an eye on cam Meyer from Australia. The riders swinging up again. No one is keen to commit to a lap. Absolutely not. Maybe Myers looking at Welsford to pull out. The world record breaking team, And now is part of the three-man breakaway. Rustling some action up at the front. If a country is represented in the breakaway group, They will not be the ones in the front trying to chase them down. They will slow up the palleton. They will not try to deter their efforts. Everyone is breaking up and we have a whole lot of different groups. We see Nick Kergozou putting in the work. Not a super threatening breakaway. They have just eased off the pedal, And they will come back together pretty quickly. Whether there is a counter-attack office remains to be seen. It might be an opportunist that puts through and goes for it. 35 laps remaining and that is a lot. There is a northern Irish rider. There has been a punch on the back wheel of John Mold's bike. The mechanics swaps. He has up to 3 laps to not lose any time. It does upset a rider, But they often come back into the race with a lot of adrenaline. This man has had a lot of fantastic racing. The Kiwi swinging off the front. He is trying to get back on within the time duration Dylan Kennett. Third in the individual pursuit. He gets into the presenting position, *pursuiting position. Dylan Kennett has of a lap on the field. There is a bit of disorganisation in the main bunch, So this has given Dylan Kennett a bit of encouragement. Dylan Kennett will look across the track and see my on the front, Increasing the pace. The Kiwi rider comes through. Cam Stewart will be slowing the pace. You see him disrupting the bunch and ruining the routine. Dylan Kennett is still of a lap in front. Let's hope that he doesn't waste too much of his energy Or is able to gain a lap. Lee Howard stretching the legs at the front of the main bunch. They are not letting Dylan Kennett get too far away. They are managing the situation at the moment. One of the Kiwi riders, Campbell Stewart at the front, Trying to slow the tempo down. 26 laps ago. The Kiwis are doing a fantastic job disrupting. Dylan Kennett's coach Jesse Sergeant will be communicating what is going on. Watch this counter-attack now. Dylan needs to keep an eye out. Myers is a huge threat. He uses the banking to his advantage to attack. You can see Dylan's going to have to put his pedal down. This is a seriously dangerous attack from Myer. He has gone off the front with number 21, Oliver Wood. Campbell Stewart is a Kiwi rider as well. Meyer pulls up. That attack has gone. Can Cam Stewart continue? Campbell Stewart, New Zealand's most successful writer at the Jr world Championships, Equalling Dylan Kennett's record of six medals. (LAUGHTER) # Lazy days... # (WHOOPING) (LAUGHTER) (ENGINE REVS) What have you got under the hood, bro? What?! Shush! What's under the hood? You wouldn't believe me. (ALL EXCLAIM) (INTRIGUING MUSIC) (TYRES SCREECH, MEN EXCLAIM, CAR WHIRRS) (BOTH LAUGH) The men's point score will come tomorrow. Mark Stuart, the rider on the front. He is a fantastic points race rider. He knows how to raise a bunch. He will have fresh legs. There is but 150 m break. The New Zealand and the Australians are not organised. Which gives hopes for Stuart. I think it is a bit more dangerous than what the bunch thinks. They seem not very concerned. Mark Stewart is a fantastic rider. I think you will see the Aussies sensed the urgency now. Just 18 laps remaining. He comes Myer. He knows he needs do the work. Any other rider would not be able to keep attacking and chasing down the brakes like him. He is a fantastic durance based athlete. He is just under half a lap ahead. That is a very dangerous pairing. If they can get themselves organised, they will charge down the Scot. It will make it very interesting. They're not quite committed to the counter-attack. Hayter is part of the great British cycling squad. Surprise not to see in working together with Meyer. We see Campbell Stewart on the screen. Hayter has gone solo. I think you will realise this is a forlorn effort. Unless Hayter joins in and they think they can still a lap. The main group is going to be really tough to still a lap. Hayter saw the opportunity. 13 laps to go. Of course, they need to make these decisions on the spot. It might as being his ABCD. Who knows what plan? John Mulder had the will change earlier. The world champion of the past. They are not quite there yet. They given the main package chance. Hayter is a little indecisive. They'll pull up now. This is not good for Ethan Hayter. I do not think he is the least distracted out. I get the feeling was gonna end up in a sprint. Meyer has jumped back in the pack. He is wanting to conserve energy. The two Australians are at the front. Meyer is just poking through. Ethan Hayter still has about 150 m lead. The main bunch is not too concerned. I get the filling out the bunch is leaving Ethan Hayter up to dry. We will see different riders with their strengths and weaknesses taking a certain points in the race. If the riders do not have a great spring, they will be looking to go anywhere from five laps onwards. Are we looking to sit in the bunch and attack in the last lap. Again, Meyer goes off the front. Ethan Hayter will have to come up with someone special. Campbell Stewart is looking great at this stage. Bar on Myers will. They will let him do the work in the lock to sprint around him. Dylan Kennett is here. He is tired, he is catching flies. Three laps to go. Ethan Hayter, can he hang on? Cam Meyer is doing all the work. Kenny has pulled out now. Real chance here for young 19-year-old to pick up a medal. Campbell Stewart is behind the two Australians. Here it goes. Ethan Hayter leads out. They've got come quickly. What a ride by Ethan Hayter. Here is Campbell Stewart on the outside. He is a big medal chance. Ethan Hayter is coming very quickly. What a big ride by the teenager from New Zealand. Magnificent. Welsford is the scratch race champion. That is some sort of ride by the man from men or two, Campbell Stewart. The most accessible ride along with Dylan Kennett at youth level. He has made the transition with a brilliant silver medal in the men's scratch. That race panned out perfectly for Campbell Stewart. He's a fantastic sprinter. He has come from a sprinting background. Second place for the 19 year old at the Commonwealth games. An incredible achievement. We have seen two young guns tonight. 219-year-old from New Zealand have a place on the podium. CORRECTION: two 19-year-olds. Welsford came quickly. Right on as well, Campbell Stewart. He looks to lunch to the line. The visors came off. What a brilliant ride by Campbell Stewart. It has been such a big night for New Zealand winning Gold in the men's sprint and now silver along with bronze. Silver in the scratch race and bronze in the 500 time trial with Emma Cumming. It is all blue sky, isn't it? To Tokyo 2020. Sam Welsford has had an amazing time, breaking the world record. The emotion overflowing his mother there. She made the trip from Perth. Another great result from New Zealand. Let's see where that takes us on the metal table. We have 12 medals in total. Australia still leading the way. They have 57 medals. We'll head to the middle ceremonies after the break. WELCOME BACK TO DAY THREE AND A BUSY DAY AT THE VELODROME. SAM WEBSTER WITH NEW ZEALAND'S BEST PERFORMANCE OF THE NIGHT ` GOLD IN THE MEN'S SPRINT. HERE'S HIS MEDAL CEREMONY. The bronze medal, representing Australia... not the result that Australia was looking for. One of the Australian's was knocked out in the first round, A big upset. Ross Edgar and the other coaching staff and his teammates. The Australian sprint coach. The winner of the silver medal... consecutive major championship silvers for him. After finishing second, he could not overcome Sam Webster. The gold medallist... here is Sam Webster, The first dual sprint champion for New Zealand. What a wonderful performance. Magnificent effort. ('GOD DEFEND NEW ZEALAND' PLAYS) ('GOD DEFEND NEW ZEALAND' PLAYS) ('GOD DEFEND NEW ZEALAND' PLAYS) (CHEERING, APPLAUSE) Gold Coast, let's celebrate our Commonwealth games medallists! (MUSIC PLAYS)
