Professor Tracey McIntosh and her students work with prisoners, particularly women and wāhine Māori, to try to understand the structural forces that have resulted in their incarceration. By working with communities and engaging with the criminal justice system, they are trying to understand and affect the underlying causes of crime and incarceration to prevent the justice system simply locking people away when it's too late.
