PHONE RINGS (DRAMATIC MUSIC) Reality television has taken over America. Donald Trump is the reality television king. - We love you, Trump! - TRUMP: I love you too. Winning is easy. Losing is never easy. Not for me, it's not. CHEERING BASS MUSIC - Arizona - you had to be there to see it, to feel it. The crowds gather and then on the horizon, you see Air Force One. CHEERING ERUPTS Trump's mood was one adrenaline-fuelled, filled with optimism and absolute self belief... ..that if he ran as fast as he could to that finish line, that he could once again confound everybody. As he gets down the steps of the plane, the music pitches up with an even bigger intensity. The crowd are going mad. This is a level of political showmanship the world has never seen before, and, I'm gonna predict now, will never see again. CHEERING - That's a lot of people. Thank you very much. - CROWD CHANTING 'USA' - Thank you. Wow. Thank you very much. Hello, Goodyear. - CHEERING - Six days, can you believe that six days from now... ..we are going to win Arizona and we are going to win four more years in our great, beautiful White House? A vote for me is a vote for massive tax cuts, regulation cuts, fair trade, strong borders. - CHANTING: We love you! We love you! - Don't make me cry. Don't make me cry. They'll say the President was crying. I don't know, I don't know about what a President that cries, but it's OK. King of Europe we have, right here. A friend of mine, a lot of people say one of the most powerful men in Europe, Nigel Farage. - I had no idea that Donald Trump would point me out and call me the King of Europe, it was a very strange way of introducing me. And then, to my absolute disbelief, he invites me up on the stage to speak. - Come on, Nigel. He's very shy. - Oh, I'm non-controversial and shy, compared to you. I've got to say, four years ago, I was honoured to come to America to bring the Brexit message, the message that you can beat the establishment. And... ..that is what Donald Trump did. He beat the pollsters, he beat the media, he beat all the predictions and here is the worst bit - they've never forgiven him for it. They've never, ever forgiven him. They have spent four years trying to delegitimize him. Most human beings under that barrage would have given up. This is the single-most resilient and bravest person I have ever met in my life! - CHEERING - Thank you, oh! - I think ultimately, historians will judge that he had no choice but to go through with the campaign, he had no choice but to see himself through to the end here because post-election, he's got issues. He's got investigations going on related to the Trump Organisation. He's got a potential federal investigation related to his tax situation. And so, there's a whole host of things that are affecting him and his family members, as well as many of his cohorts, so him winning that election would have insulated him from that prosecution. - MAN CHANTS: We love Trump! - People looked at this election in almost apocalyptic terms. People on both sides literally thought that it was going to determine whether or not our country was going to survive. - The National Guard has established a new unit of mostly military policemen to help curb any unrest in coming days. - You had his hardcore supporters that believed that if he was going to lose, it was a disaster for the United States, and then for those that were horrified by Trump, this was a chance to get rid of him. - Well, this guy Trump has destroyed everything. He's a vile, nasty human being. - I want someone who my daughter can look up to. - We need decency in the White House, and we need somebody who knows how to get things done. - To beat the virus, we've first got to beat Donald Trump! - CHEERING - He's the virus. - Biden was barely campaigning. The pandemic was surging, Donald Trump, against all the advice of the medical experts, was doing four, five, even six of these a day. Even though the polls looked dreadful, Trump looked out on those crowds in the final weeks of the campaign, he started to believe that he was going to win. - We have made America powerful again. We have made America wealthy again. We have made America strong again. We have made America proud again. We're proud again, we're respected. We're respected again. - I served as homeland security and counterterrorism adviser and then served on the White House Coronavirus Task Force. The President realised that the pandemic is going to be a major issue going into the election. But the election was what mattered. We would be sitting there in very serious meetings where he would go off on a tangent. Really, it was just about him rather than what we needed to be doing to slow the spread of the virus and stop what was happening. The President starts doing the rallies, even though he knows he's putting people at risk. There were White House staff who were scared to travel to these rallies, but it didn't matter, the front was, "We will pretend that everything's back to normal." - I feel so powerful, I'll walk into that audience. I'll walk in there, I'll kiss everyone in that audience. I'll kiss the guys and the beautiful women in the... Everybody, I'll just give you a big, fat kiss. SCATTERED APPLAUSE - Good evening. - I was really concerned when a lot of the election meetings sort of went off the grid. They were doing a lot of private meetings on this. Trump really starts to play up the rhetoric of, "We need to watch the ballots." And then, he started to pressure the postal service. - NEWS: The new Postmaster General appointed by President Trump has come under fire for cost-cutting measures that have slowed mail delivery. Critics worry it could put mail-in ballots in jeopardy. - I thought to myself, "He's doing this on purpose." And I remember thinking to myself, "I don't know what's going on there, "and I don't want to be any part of that." GENTLE MUSIC - NEWS: It is Tuesday, November 3rd, election day. Don't adjust your sets, polls are open. - Good evening, this most unusual and important race for the White House at the finish line, votes being counted, polls starting to close. And our special coverage starts right now. - We will be getting some results, actually, we think this hour from Kentucky, from Indiana, all the polls now closed there. - Voters are in the final hours of making a monumental decision for this country, about who will lead us through the next four years. - Tonight, President Trump is in the White House, where he plans to spend the evening watching returns. If he should be defeated, Mr Trump would be just the fourth elected incumbent in the last 100 years to lose re-election. - I'm Pastor Darrell Scott, senior pastor of the New Spirit Revival Center Church in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. President Trump is first and foremost, he's my president. Second and foremost, he's my friend. He and I have a relationship that dates back nearly ten years. At the White House on election night, everyone came in. There was the whole darn family. Everybody in the Trump orbit was there. There's Rudy Giuliani, what is he doing? He's got his laptop up and he's tracking the election results. Rudy Giuliani, Tiffany Trump and a number of Trump supporters and big donors from all over the country were there on that night. The polls had him down by a significant margin, but we didn't trust the polls because we knew of the excitement that was in the air in America. - I then went into the main bar, the private party I was in, you know, drinks were being poured, there's a billionaire here and a billionaire there. And then the rappers arrived. About six guys arrived who were rappers with, kind of, full body art and big diamond rings. And the early results were coming in and they were really, really good. - You can now see that Donald Trump has taken the lead in Ohio. - Donald Trump's got a lead in Pennsylvania. He's leading in Michigan, he's leading in Wisconsin. Could this be a replay of 2016? Could he have proved everybody wrong again? - They're now projecting that Donald Trump will win the state of Ohio. Donald Trump will win the state of Ohio tonight. - Suddenly, Trump becomes 3-1 on, 4-1 on, 5-1 on. - CNN projects that President Trump will win the state of Florida. - Once Florida was called, that was it. Everyone decided he's won, there's no question, everyone assumes that it's a slam dunk. - I knew it! I knew it! - And it was all looking wonderful. And then suddenly, the most extraordinary moment. - OK, time out. This is a big development. - Yeah. - The Fox News decision desk is calling Arizona for Joe Biden. That is a big get for the Biden campaign. Biden picking up Arizona changes the math. - When they called Arizona... ..it gave us a cause to pause... ..and say, "Wait a minute." We knew that something wrong was going on, something was rotten in Denmark, that there was something going on behind the scenes. And so, that's when the mood began to shift. - State-wide, the difference is... ..about 100,000, 110,000. (TENSE MUSIC) - Well, I had been hearing that the President was in a highly agitated state. He was upset with Fox for calling Arizona for Biden. He was... He had watched the earlier returns coming in and he thought that he had won and now he looked up and it was looking like he was going to lose. And, you know, suddenly... ..we get word he's actually going to come out and give a speech. - The President was going to come out about five minutes ago. I mean, you have to wonder if there's ongoing discussion, or what took them this long. - As the family is entering the East Room, take a close look at their faces. These people know for absolute certain, they could not hide their disappointment at how badly he was doing. - Ladies and gentlemen, the President of the United States, Donald J Trump. - CHEERING AND APPLAUSE - MUSIC: Hail to the Chief by James Sanderson - Well, thank you very much. Thank you. Thank you very much, please sit. Thank you. I want to thank the American people for their tremendous support. Millions and millions of people voted for us tonight. And a... A very sad group of people is trying to disenfranchise that group of people. And we won't stand for it. We will not stand for it. - CHEERING AND APPLAUSE - And we were getting ready for a big celebration. - Oh, yeah! - We were winning everything and all of a sudden, it was just called off. I mean, literally, we were just all set to get outside and just celebrate something that was so beautiful, so good. Such a vote, such a success. We won states that we weren't expected to win. Florida - we didn't win it, we won it by a lot. And all of a sudden, everything just stopped. This is a fraud on the American public. This is an embarrassment to our country. We were getting ready to win this election. Frankly, we did win this election. We did win this election. - CHEERING AND WHOOPING - So our goal now is to ensure the integrity... ..for the good of this nation, this is a very big moment. So we'll be going to the US Supreme Court. We want all voting to stop. We don't want them to find any ballots at four o'clock in the morning and add them to the list. OK? It's a very sad... It's a very sad moment. We will win this, and as far as I'm concerned, we already have won it. So I just want to thank you. - CHEERING AND APPLAUSE MENACING MUSIC - I spoke to people that were with Trump. The view was, this late momentum is materialising into a win. You have to remember something. Donald Trump is winning Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania. What he thinks is, "Give me a fucking break. "Give me a fucking break. "I win Ohio, I win Iowa, I win Florida, I gain votes in all these states. "But in these states controlled by Democrat governors, somehow I lose? "Somehow I lose after I'm up on election night "by an astronomical amount? It's bullshit." That's what he thinks. - You know, listen, this is a calculated, premeditated strategy. PENSIVE MUSIC APPLAUSE CHEERING AND APPLAUSE - Secretary Clinton, Mr Trump, let's get right to it. You have been warning that this election is rigged and that Hillary Clinton is in the process of trying to steal it. - If you look at your voter rolls, you will see millions of people that are registered to vote that shouldn't be registered to vote. - Sir, there is a tradition in this country that at the end of the campaign, the loser concedes to the winner. Are you saying you're not prepared now to commit to that principle? - What I'm saying is, I will tell you at the time, I'll keep you in suspense. - Well, Chris, let me respond to that, because that's horrifying. You know, every time Donald thinks things are not going in his direction, he claims whatever it is is rigged against him. He lost the Iowa caucus. He lost the Wisconsin primary. He said the Republican primary was rigged against him. Then Trump University gets sued for fraud and racketeering - he claims the court system and the federal judge is rigged against him. There was even a time when he didn't get an Emmy for his TV programme three years in a row and he started tweeting that the Emmys were rigged. - I should have got that. - This... This is a mind-set. - This is... This is how Donald thinks. - In 2016, he thought he was going to lose, and he made it very clear to everybody on the campaign that he was going to say that this was a rigged election and he was going to run with that narrative until the end of his life. All he did in 2020 was to repurpose that branding. All of this is contrived. All of this is premeditated. LOW MUSIC CAMERA SHUTTERS CLICK RAPIDLY - Thank you very much. Thank you. I'd like to provide the American people with an update on our efforts to protect the integrity of our very important 2020 election. - I was there at the White House when the President held a press conference and he just said lie after lie after lie. - If you count the legal votes, I easily win. If you count the illegal votes, they can try to steal... ..the election from us. I've already decisively won many critical states, including massive victories in Florida, Iowa, Indiana, Ohio. - OK, here we are, again, in the unusual position of not only interrupting the President of the United States, but correcting the President of the United States. And, Ari Melber, don't go far, given that you are our chief legal correspondent. There are no illegal votes that we know of. There has been no Trump victory that we know of. - We can't stand for that in our country. Thank you very much. - REPORTERS CLAMOUR - Mr President. Mr President, are you going to accept the outcome of the election, sir, if you lose? Mr President. - Are you being a sore loser? - Why are you undercutting this process? - ANDERSON COOPER: That is the President of the United States, that is the most powerful person in the world, and we see him like an obese turtle on his back, flailing in the hot sun, realising his time is over. * - The Trump campaign is going to court as vote counting continues in states where a winner hasn't been declared in the race for president. - I'm here to tell you tonight we believe we're on track to win this election. - CHEERING, HORNS HONK - You're going to have to be patient. Until we, er... the hard work of tallying votes is finished, and it ain't over till every vote is counted, every ballot is counted. - CROWD: Stop the count! Stop the count! Stop the count! Stop the count! Stop the count! - Well, I think the President, I mean, his first reaction is to fight, it's called Election Day Operations. We had lawyers dispatched to all of the key states. We were on guard for it, and when you have a president that had three adult children who were also... and then their significant others, I mean, they're rock stars in their own right. - CROWD: Stop the steal! Stop the steal! - So it was a tremendous tool. - And Democrats know that the only way that they could win this election is to cheat in Pennsylvania, and we've seen it from day one. We've seen it from day one. We found ballots in drainage ditches. They're not letting our poll watchers watch the polls, they're not letting them inside. They're trying to cheat. - The number one thing that Donald Trump can do in this election is fight each and every one of these battles to the death so that we get full transparency in the process. And everyone on the Democrat side should welcome this unless they're actually cheating. - CHEERING - CROWD: Stop the count! - REPORTER: This is where the last few remaining thousand ballots for this city are being tallied. - You know, I think what the President needs to do is, frankly, put his big boy pants on. He needs to acknowledge the fact that he lost and he needs to congratulate the winner and let us move forward as a country. - I hear a sound of victory. I hear a sound of shouting and singing, I hear a sound of victory in the quarters of heaven. Victory, victory, victory, victory, victory, victory, victory. For angels are being released right now. Angels are being dispatched right now. SHE CHANTS - REPORTER: Joe Biden is on the cusp of being declared the next President of the United States. - First, the President tweeted that the press conference was going to be at the Four Seasons in Philadelphia. I was like, "Wow, so he's having a press conference at the Four Seasons Hotel." LAZING COUNTRY MUSIC We looked it up and the President's legal team is holding a press conference at a landscaping company on the outskirts of Philadelphia, in the middle of a sex shop on one side and a crematorium on the other side. - All liars and stole this election. Media's whores. Medias are all whores. - It was nuts. - Wow, what a beautiful day. Thank you. So I'm here on behalf of the... ..on behalf of the Trump campaign to describe to you... MICROPHONE FEEDS BACK ..the first part of a situation that is extremely... ..extremely troubling. As you know, from the very beginning, the mail-in ballots were a source of some degree of scepticism, if not a lot of scepticism, as being innately prone to fraud. We'll wait. PLANE FLIES OVERHEAD Not a single one was inspected, as the law required. Kind of funny that all Republicans were rejected here and all Republicans were rejected in Pittsburgh, and it amounts to about, gee, just about the 700,000 votes that President Trump was ahead by two days ago that disappeared. Pshhew! - Who called it - CNN? - CNN. - The poll? - The call. The call - it was called for Joe Biden. Why do you...? - Because they don't decide the election. The call for Joe Biden isn't... Who was it called by? - All the networks. - All the... Oh, my goodness. All the networks! Wow! All the networks! We have to forget about the law. Judges don't count. Don't be ridiculous. Networks don't get to decide elections, courts do. - CBS News is now projecting former Vice President Joe Biden will be the 46th President of these United States. CHEERING HOPEFUL MUSIC SHE LAUGHS CHEERING - Well, it's easier to be a parent this morning, it's easier to be a dad, it's easier... it's easier to tell your kids character matters. TEARFULLY: It matters. Telling the truth matters. Being a good person matters. - # Na-na-na, hey, hey # Goodbye! # The President, he's out on the golf course right now. The President is saying in a statement he is not going to accept the results of this election right now, that the legal challenges are going to proceed, starting on Monday. CHEERING - Yeah! - I kept on hearing from people who were advising the President, "Give him time. "He knows he's ultimately going to respect the process, "but give him time," as if it's like a child that needs to come to terms with the fact that he lost something, you know, a baseball game or something. Let him cry in the corner for a while, he'll be OK eventually. It's ridiculous. He's the President of United States. It's ridiculous. He's the President of United States. PENSIVE MUSIC - So many leaders of the Republican Party not only not congratulating Joe Biden, but defending these ludicrous allegations that the President is making that he won the election, that it was all fraud. - It's not unusual, it should not be alarming. At some point here, we'll find out finally who was certified in each of these states. - There will be a smooth transition to a second Trump administration. All right, we're ready. The world is watching what's taking place here. We're going to count all the votes. When the process is complete, there'll be electors selected. There's a process. The Constitution lays it out pretty clearly. - I was shocked to see some of the most senior people in the Republican Party play into this ridiculous campaign waged by the President. He's trying to steal the election. Just call it what it is. It would be the most brazen act of election theft that we have ever seen in the United States, by far. - REPORTER: President Trump remains out of sight, making no comment. Instead, his tweets have stayed focused on the election, which he still has not conceded. - I gave him a call four or five days after the election. When he came to the line, he said, "Hey, my pastor." He said, "Darrell, you know I don't mind losing. "I left it all out there on the playing field. I lose, I lose." He says, "So I can stand to lose, "but I can't stand being cheated. "So I'm going to fight it tooth and nail." - REPORTER: Supporters are set to hold a Million Maga March in Washington, DC, this afternoon. - REPORTER: It could be a busy day in DC as groups supporting President Trump's effort to contest the election results planned a march in the nation's capital, starting at Freedom Plaza and going to the Supreme Court. ACOUSTIC GUITAR MUSIC - NIGEL FARAGE: Every other Republican candidate to be president would've thrown in the towel very, very early on. Trump doesn't do that. He believes he has a just cause. Trump just fights on. And, hey, you know, he is the bare knuckle guy, isn't he? He's the guy that will never give in to an establishment that have treated him with utter contempt. - CROWD: Four more years! Four more years! Four more years! - Came to stop the steal, came to make sure that Trump gets in there. - And I am not going to sit by while the evil tentacles of socialism wrap itself around the greatest country in the world. - CROWD: Trump 2020! Trump 2020! - So I'm here fighting every day for you, like you're fighting for us. - CROWD: Stop the steal! Stop the steal! Stop the steal! - This is my country and I love it. People from all over the country flew out to come to this event, to stand up, to stop the steal, to demand that we have a transparent election. To stand behind President Trump and say, we got your back, he's been fighting for us for four years, the least we could do is show up and fight for him. ROCK MUSIC He drove through the crowd. It was incredible. People were going crazy. - CHEERING - I believe that if every single legal vote is counted, President Trump absolutely won this election. If we allow this to stand, then America will not be America for very long. - Don't make a mistake of over-reading Trump, OK? The obvious is the obvious. You know, if the window's open and you hear clippity-clop outside, it's a horse, it's not a zebra. It's right there on the surface. I know this son of a bitch very well. This is a cunning sociopath. He's nuts, but he's very cunning, and he's very smart. VOICEOVER: Your spare pair, your glare pair, the flying-through-the-air pair. We could all use a second pair. (WHIMPERS) At Specsavers, get specs and shades for $169, including single-vision lenses. * PULSING BASS MUSIC - I can't say what's first and what's last in terms of is this the last one, or is this the first one of a second term? We'll see what happens. I don't know what is going to happen. I know one thing. Joe Biden did not get 80 million votes and I got 74 million, but there were many ballots thrown away, so I got much more than that. It was a rigged election. 100%. Well, if they do, they made a mistake, because this election was a fraud. - But will you...? - Just say in the Senate, this election was a fraud. So, no, I can't say that at all. I think it's a possibility. They're trying to... Look, between you people... - Yes... - Don't talk to me that way. You're just a lightweight. Don't talk to me that... Don't talk to... I'm the President of the United States. Don't ever talk to the President that way. We caught them cheating. We caught them stealing. This election was a rigged election. Thank you very much, everybody. REPORTERS CLAMOUR - RUDY GIULIANI: Good afternoon. We're representing President Trump and we're representing the Trump campaign, and we will present the evidence that we've collected over the last two weeks. As we started investigating, and what emerged very quickly is is there's not a singular voter fraud in one state. If you count the lawful votes in Pennsylvania, he won it by about 300,000 votes. - I've got to tell you, when Rudy Giuliani took over, the Trump campaign team just put their hands up, were just like, "That's it." The only fan he has is Donald Trump. The President told people, "Look, I know everybody attacks Rudy, "but I can't get a real law firm to represent me." - You couldn't possibly believe that the company counting our vote, with control over our vote, is owned by two Venezuelans who were allies of Chavez, are present allies of Maduro, with a company whose chairman is a close associate and business partner of George Soros. - This was Looney Tunes, and it mentioned every little possible conspiracy you can imagine. So, Hugo Chavez of Venezuela is involved, even though he's been dead for seven years. George Soros was... is somehow involved, the Clinton Foundation, the Democratic officials in big cities. It was a vast conspiracy. - And that's when the Dominion operators went in and injected votes and changed the whole system. Globalist dictators, corporations, you name it. Everybody's against us except President Trump. - Mr Giuliani, if you lose this one, what's the impact on the presidential race? - The day after the election, we still had the pathway to victory, but you have to actually be able to transition that into evidence. As the week went on, I went from that, from the high of where I was hopeful to more of a reality side. The further you go along, the further and further you realise that the evidence is not there. - There are signs tonight Republican support for the President's "give no ground" posture is crumbling. - The conduct of the President's legal team has been a national embarrassment. This is outrageous conduct by any lawyer and they won't do it inside the courtroom. They allege fraud outside the courtroom, but when they go inside the courtroom, they don't plead fraud and they don't argue fraud. This is what I was concerned about at 2.30 in the morning on Wednesday night. Listen, I've been a supporter of the President. I voted for him twice. But elections have consequences and we cannot continue to act as if something happened here that didn't happen. - REPORTER: More federal prisoners have been executed in the US this year than in the previous 56 years combined. - REPORTER: In 24 hours, this president has issued pardons, gifts to many convicted criminals. 26 new Trump pardons tonight. - REPORTER: President Trump has just fired Christopher Krebs. He's the director of the federal election security agency that repeatedly vouched for the accuracy of the 2020 election. - The President is making very clear here, he's not even trying to tiptoe around the fact that he is firing this official because he is contradicting the President's baseless conspiracy theories. - Donald Trump knows in politics that's it's better to be feared than loved. Trump has been on the phone to officials whose job is just to certify a result. He tried to tell them not to do that. Tony Soprano would be nodding his head, Don Corleone would be nodding his head. - Like other Republicans, I'm disappointed our candidate didn't win Georgia's electoral votes. Working as an engineer throughout my life, I lived by the motto that numbers don't lie. As Secretary of State, I believe that the numbers that we have presented today are correct. HORNS HONK Death threats happened and my wife actually got the first ones and then I started getting some, and then the next stage was that she started getting sexualised texts that were really disgusting. You know, that's what bothered me the most, is really they were attacking my wife. Right after Thanksgiving was really when individuals came by the house. Those type of folks mean business. I just thought it was very scary, really. * - Good afternoon. My name is Gabriel Sterling, I'm the voting system implementation manager for the State of Georgia. I'm going to do my best to keep it together... ..because it has all gone too far. All of it. Joe diGenova today asked for Chris Krebs, a patriot who ran Cesa, to be shot. It has to stop. Mr President, you have not condemned these actions or this language. Senators, you have not condemned this language or these actions. This has to stop. We need you to step up and if you're going to take a position of leadership, show some. My boss, Secretary Raffensperger, his address is out there. They have people doing caravans in front of their house. They've had people come onto their property. Tricia, his wife of 40 years, is getting sexualised threats through her cellphone. It has to stop. DIALLING RINGING SUBDUED MUSIC - My job is to make sure we have honest and fair elections, it's a straightforward as that. It's not complicated. He lost fair and square. I voted for the man, a lot of other people did, but he didn't carry Georgia. And my job is to do my job. - Raffensperger, Krebs, these people are heroes. They recognise that it's their job to serve the country and it's their job to stay subservient to the rules and laws of the country. There was an orange wrecking ball that wanted to come in and annihilate those rules, annihilate those norms and annihilate those standards. These were all low profile, relatively anonymous people, but they took the moral and principled nature of what they were doing to heart, and they became heroes at a time when their country needed their heroism. PENSIVE MUSIC - I now invite President Clinton and Secretary Clinton to cast their ballots. - It felt great. I'm really looking forward to the Biden-Harris administration. It's going to be great for the country. - What do you think the significance of this historical moment is today? - It's absolutely monumental. We're going to have a president and vice president who are going to work for all the people and make a real difference to everybody. Thank you. - REPORTER: It is December 15th, one day after the Electoral College made it official that Joe Biden is the next President of the United States. - Good evening, my fellow Americans. Over the past few weeks, our democracy - pushed, tested, threatened - proved to be resilient, true and strong.
